Bursaries 2012

The Royal Canadian Legion is offering four bursaries of $500 each to students attending schools in Mission. Please complete an application and take it to the Legion at the address in contact information at the foot of this page. The deadline for applications is May 2, 2012.

To qualify each applicant must satisfy the following criteria:

1. Must be or has been a grade 12 graduating student attending a high school in Mission.

2. Must be a resident of Mission.

3. Must attend a university, college or vocational or trade school in British Columbia next year.

It is important that students do not need to prove academic excellence to qualify, as the selection committee will weigh the qualities of each applicant as reflected by the materials they provide. As the number of applicants often exceeds the number of bursaries available the committee may require that the applicant attend an interview and provide additional information that will assist the committee in making the best decision possible. Qualified applicants are asked to submit the following:

1. A completed application form.

2. A brief resume of your aims and ambitions.

3. A letter supporting your application, written by a teacher, counselor or administrator.

4. A visual or art presentation that contrasts the life of a WWI or WWII soldier with that of a soldier involved in the Afghanistan conflict. Or your presentation may tell the story of your family member who was or is a soldier in any of the world conflicts.

Bursaries are available from both Branch 57 and the British Columbia/Yukon Command as follows:

Two bursaries of $500 each are available for the children and grandchildren of Canadian veterans and ex service personnel.
